New warning signs at Conimicut Point Beach in Warwick contain spelling error

WARWICK, RI (WLNE) – The new warning signs that were installed Wednesday at Conimicut Point Beach in Warwick incorrectly spell “occurred” as “occured.”

A spokesperson for Mayor Picozzi says the sign is still effective and as of now the signs are staying up as is.

They were donated free of charge from Bori Graphix in Warwick, according to the Mayor’s spokeswoman Elizabeth Tufts.

It’s unclear if the city will have to pay for the replacement signs if the city decides to fix the spelling error.

The signs were put up following the drowning of a 10-year-old girl last month.

The signs warn of the dangerous tides at the sandbar that extends out from the beach.
