New Warwick Mayor starts week by accidentally pulling over a police officer

"Just another episode of the Rookie Mayor"

WARWICK, R.I (WLNE) – Newly elected Warwick Mayor, Frank Picozzi, accidentally turned on the lights to his new city vehicle when he noticed a car pulled over. When he went over to apologize, he discovered that the driver was an undercover cop.

Mayor Picozzi shared the story on social media.

Being the mayor, Picozzi is on call 24/7 in the event he needs to respond to city emergencies.

Picozzi was initially given a Ford Taurus, but, having driven a pickup truck his whole life, he turned it in for something a little bigger; an Explorer.

“Driving home Monday night on the Apponaug bypass the microphone for the PA system fell off it’s overhead mount. Keeping my eyes on the road I tried to hang it back up but inadvertently hit the button that activates the police lights”, said Picozzi.

“It took a few seconds to figure out how to shut them off. Up in the distance a car had pulled over. I stopped to apologize and explain and discovered that it was a police officer in an unmarked car”, he continued.

Picozzi said he and the officer had a good laugh about the situation.

He ended the post by saying he is “going to search YouTube for how to be Mayor videos.”

Picozzi was sworn into office on January 5th.
