Newport International Boat Show wraps up 49th year

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — The 49th annual Newport International Boat Show had a strong finish in Sunday’s beautiful weather.

Organizers estimate more than 40,000 people attended this year.

The show takes up 13 acres in Newport’s downtown waterfront.

It features hundreds of boats in a range of different styles, plus exhibitors offering new products and apps for dedicated boaters.

“Everything in the show is brand new,” said organizer Gail Lowney Alofsin. “Power boats, sail boats. You can buy a starter boat, a little dingy to take you out on the harbor, to million-dollar yachts.”

The Boat Show’s charitable partner this year is the Rhode Island Leukemia Cup Regatta.

Organizers say they’re already working on some special surprises for next year’s 50th anniversary.
