Newport police establish LGBTQ+ liaison

NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) — The Newport Police Department have announced the designation of the city’s first dedicated LGBTQ+ liaison officer.

Officer Caitlin Polawski, an eight-year veteran of the force, will be the first to serve in the role.

Poplawski and other members of the police department will host an open forum with Newport Pride, Inc. after the New Year to introduce herself to the community. All are welcome to attend.

The position is to serve as a point of contact within the department for members of the city’s LGBTQ+ community. It was created alongside members of the community through ongoing dialogue to build a more inclusive community in the city.
