NEWPORT, R.I. (WLNE) – Five restaurants have filed a joint lawsuit against National Grid and Enbridge in the wake of the January gas outages on Aquidneck Island.

Sardella’s Italian Restaurant, O’Brien’s Pub, Scales & Shells, Stoneacre Brasserie, and Stoneacre Tapas joined together with attorneys Robert Karns and John Fulweiler to file a mass action lawsuit Thursday in Newport County Superior Court.

The lawsuit seeks to compensate the restaurants that were adversely affected by the outages.

“We’re pleased to join this effort in pursuing compensations for various Newport businesses that incurred losses as a result of the Newport Gas Crisis”, the attorneys said in a statement.

Karns and Fulweiler said the lawsuit is not a class action, but rather mass action. Each plaintiff will be handled differently based on the effects they felt from the outages.

The statement said plaintiffs may be added to the lawsuit by contacting the law offices.
