PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Providence Police have identified the 19-year-old man that was killed outside a housing complex on Prairie Avenue.

Police say Zachary Medina was killed and Darius Page, 26, of Providence was injured in a shooting early Saturday Morning.

Providence Police Major David Lapatin said Police are searching for a suspect who fled the scene after he opened fire in the parking lot outside the Lockwood Plaza apartments around 1:00 a.m. Saturday.

Both victims were transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where Medina was pronounced dead. Page is expected to be okay.

Medina’s family members tells ABC6 News he had a big heart. He loved to play basketball and baseball. He turned 19 earlier in the month.

“It hurts me because I would never thought this would happen to him,” his aunt, Isabel Navedo, said. “He had a big heart, would make jokes. He didn’t bother anybody.”

Medina lived with family in Rhode Island for most of his life. His parents are from the Dominican Republic. They want justice for their son and hope police find the suspect.

A Go Fund Me page (click here) has been set up in Medina’s honor to bring justice to him and his family.

Medina is also survived by a younger brother.

His death marks the 9th homicide in Providence this year.
