Hats off (but not jackets) to slightly warmer weather each day!

We will have seasonal weather through tomorrow, then we’ll enjoy a warm-up for the last few days of 2022. High pressure is dominating our weather this week and is anchoring itself along the eastern seaboard. We’ll see dry weather with sunny days. This surface high pressure system will give us a light southerly wind flow through Thursday before that breeze picks up on Friday and Saturday with an approaching storm system and cold front.

That’s the downside of the milder air; A storm system developing late in the week will push our way with unfortunate timing for the weekend.  You’ll need the umbrella for New Years’ Eve and New Year’s Day as showers dampen holiday festivities.

This is the pattern for the next 10 days with arctic cold retreating back to where it belongs…central and northern Canada, the arctic circle where these air masses are manufactured. Notice this morning’s temperatures in the upper mid-west were similar to what we had this past weekend. The upper level jet stream wind will continue pushing northward in the eastern U.S. This allows for the warm-up with milder air building at all levels of the atmosphere east of the Mississippi. Reminder that some ponds and lakes have thin ice on them now and this is not safe to venture out on. It’s a good time to teach children especially of the dangers of thin ice. It won’t be an issue after this weekend because any ice will melt with the mild air and rain ahead.
