No Mount Saint Charles students part of North Smithfield hazing investigation, superintendent says

WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — North Smithfield Superintendent Michael St. Jean said that no Mount Saint Charles students are part of the ongoing investigation of the alleged hazing involving North Smithfield’s high school football team.

The alleged incident happened during the 2021-22 football season.

Mount Saint Charles and North Smithfield share a co-op football team, but the initial investigation revealed that no Mount students were present during the alleged incident.

“Hazing in all forms is not tolerated by Mount Saint Charles and we work to educate our student athletes on the principles of honorable competition,” said Mount Saint Charles President Alan Tenreiro.

He added that said that the school was unaware of anything besides what was sent to the North Smithfield community regarding the incident. He said that the school would fully cooperate with the investigation.

St. Jean said that all football activities have been suspended until the investigation is finished.
