CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) – Santa is taking the year off from Garden City Center because of the coronavirus pandemic.

However, the shopping plaza says they are finding other ways to get festive this year .

There’s a photo op at the Gazebo where you can safely take pictures.  Verde Garden Shop, a seasonal pop-up, has designed a display with trees and wreaths to take your own outdoor holiday photos.

Garden City’s Holiday strolls will still take place on November 28, December 5 and 12 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.  They’ll feature steel drummers, carolers in Victorian-era clothing, hot chocolate and a brass holiday band playing traditional and modern holiday songs.  The center says Santa will be sending some elves as well to walk around and hand out ‘surprises’ to the kids.

You can also help families in need.  Garden City is partnering with The Tomorrow Fund’s Adopt-A-Family program.  It benefits families whose children are undergoing cancer treatment at Hasbro Children’s Hospital. Shoppers can purchase a Garden City Center gift card at the kiosk located in the Midway Place Offices in any donation and place it in the nearby drop box.
