PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – A local nonprofit honored fallen U.S. service members this weekend by decorating Roger Williams Park with boots, flags, and name tags.

Boots on the Ground for Heroes, coordinated by non-profit organization Operation Stand Down Rhode Island, is an annual event that celebrates Memorial Day by placing boots to represent U.S. service personnel killed in action. Since 2016, the event has featured almost 7,000 boots in the park each year.

The event concludes tonight with a light show at the Temple to Music in Roger Williams Park. The show is scheduled to begin at 8:45pm and is open to the public.
