North Attleborough man arrested after threatening pharmacy employees, shoplifting
NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) — North Smithfield police arrested a man who allegedly threatened employees at a pharmacy and shoplifted, before crashing into a police cruiser over the weekend.
Raymond Cormier, 32, of North Attleborough, was charged with shoplifting less than $100, reckless driving, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.
Police said they responded just after 10 a.m. to a CVS for reports of a man threatening to harm employees. The man had already fled the scene when police arrived.
While responding, police received a call reporting a shoplifter at a nearby Walmart. The description matched the suspect at the CVS.
Walmart workers told police the man was leaving in a white work van. Officers spotted the van driving down Dowling Vehicle Boulevard.
Police said the van was “operating erratically and ran a red traffic light” as it went towards Eddie Dowling Highway.
The van drove onto the sidewalk, before crashing into a police cruiser, and came to a stop.
Cormier had an active warrant and was on bail for previous charges, according to police.
He was also cited for obedience to traffic control devices, lane roadway violations and failing to use a turn signal.
Cormier is being held without bail.
