North Carolina nursing home uses old school idea with 21st century twist to ease strain of social isolation for patients

NORTH CAROLINA (WLNE) – A nursing home in North Carolina thought up an old school idea, using a twenty first century twist to ease the strain of social isolation during the pandemic.

Caregivers are using social media to connect nursing home residents with pen pals from around the world.

It took just one question for the post on Facebook to go viral: “Will you be my pen pal?”

Residents smiled for pictures while holding signs with their names and interests, and the response was massive.

Mail and packages poured in from across the globe including Germany, New Zealand and countries in Africa.
