North Cumberland Middle School to close for cleaning after student tests positive
CUMBERLAND, R.I. (WLNE)- North Cumberland Middle School will switch to distance learning on Friday, after one of its students tested positive for COVID-19.
Superintendent Robert Mitchell made the announcement in a notice to parents on Thursday.
“A deep cleaning will take place at NCMS tomorrow while students and staff are out of the building,” Mitchell said in the notice.
Mitchell said school officials were in touch with the Rhode Island Department of Health, which had begun contact tracing.
The student was not identified out of respect to privacy, Mitchell said, adding that the student was not showing symptoms.
According to the statement, the decision to reopen the school lies with RIDOH.
