North Kingstown High School cancels classes Friday to allow school community to mourn late teacher

NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — North Kingstown High school will have no classes Friday following the recent death of a teacher.

School Committee member Jennifer Lima shared a message on social media from interim Superintendent Michael Waterman saying there will be no school to allow the high school community to attend the funeral of Alicia Biros.

“This day off will allow staff and students to grieve in their own personal way,” wrote Waterman.

According to the message, Biros passed away last week.

She was a math teacher at North Kingstown High School for 18 years.

Waterman said the the rest of the district’s schools will be in session tomorrow.

He noted the last day of classes for the high school will be June 24 and for the rest of the district the last day will be June 23.
