North Smithfield couple still in love 77 years later

NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WLNE) – Raymond and Lucille Lavoie first tied the knot on June 10, 1944. Their love story has spanned 77 years, and this year’s anniversary was extra special.

The couple, who were first introduced to ABC6 in 2014, have been together since they were 18. Marriage comes with many challenges, but this year they faced what may be their greatest challenge yet: catching – and beating – COVID-19.

“We’ve had a lot of troubles like everybody else…and we went through them and we survived them all,” Lucille said.  “I want people to know that there’s still people who stick together.”

The Lavoies live in a nursing home in Woonsocket. They have two children, five grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
