Nursing home visitation petition gains traction even after restrictions are loosened

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- A woman has started a petition that is starting to get quite a few signatures.

Alda Cordeiro is collecting signatures to persuade the state to have more consistent visitation restrictions for visitors in nursing homes.

Her mother is a resident at a nursing home and she hasn’t been able to see her in person for nearly a year.

Cordeiro tells ABC6 that her mother has lost over 20 pounds during the time where restrictions have been in place. She also says that her mother is “depressed and emotionally failing to thrive.”

She argues that residents shouldn’t be isolated anymore, since most of them have received the vaccine.

Cordeiro plans to send the petition to Lt. Governor McKee, Speaker of the House Shekarchi, and Senate President Ruggeri.

She also hopes to be able to have a meeting with Lt. Governor McKee soon.
