NYC Mayor Bloomberg Endorses Chafee for RI Gov.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg
says fellow Republican-turned-independent Lincoln Chafee has the
common sense and integrity to be Rhode Island's next governor.

Bloomberg endorsed Chafee Thursday in downtown Providence,
saying Chafee was the right man for the job.

Chafee is facing a heated four-way race for governor that
includes Democrat Frank Caprio, who's got nearly three times more
money in his campaign account.

Bloomberg says Chafee understands that a successful candidate
can't play partisan politics.

Bloomberg is a billionaire and three-term mayor. Chafee is a
former senator who lost his seat in 2006 and left the Republican
Party in 2007, the same year as Bloomberg, saying it had moved too
far to the right.
