Ocean State Waves Blank Mystic at Old Mountain Field
Ocean State Waves news release…
WAKEFIELD, R.I. – Ryan Gray (Trinity TX) retired sixteen Mystic Schooners batters in a row to begin the game, leading the Ocean State Waves (14-11) to a victory of 2-0 over the Mystic Schooners (16-10) in Friday night’s game at Old Mountain Field.
The Waves offense struck first in the bottom of the seventh inning when Alex King (Saint Louis) singled with two outs to get a runner on base for the Waves. He was followed by Dom Veltri (Belmont) with a double, and a passed ball allowed King to score and give Ocean State a 1-0 lead. Nick Dawson (Southern Mississippi) then drove in Veltri with a single to right field to give the Waves an insurance run, upping their lead to 2-0.
Gray pitched the first seven innings of tonight’s game for the Waves. He retired sixteen batters, allowed only two hits and struck out four batters before Richard Lovelady (Kennesaw State) replaced him in the top of the eighth and threw the last two innings with one strikeout.
For the Waves King went 1-for-3, Dawson went 1-for-3 with a RBI, and Veltri went 1-for-1 with a double and a run scored.
The Waves are scheduled to play tomorrow night against the Plymouth Pilgrims. John Amendola (Northeastern) is set to start for the Waves on the mound. Tune in online as Tim Scott and Hunter Julius bring you the action on the NECBL Broadcast Network. First pitch will be at 6:05 at Old Mountain Field.
