PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A police officer was injured after a large crowd aggressively confronted officers outside of a lounge in Providence early Friday morning, according to authorities.

The incident happened just after 1 a.m. on Silver Spring Street — at a parking lot that’s used by Mezzo Lounge customers.

Police said Quiron Ross, 22, was being escorted out of the club by security after he allegedly assaulted several people inside the establishment, including a security guard.

When officers tried to place him into custody, a large crowd surrounded the officers to intervene, police said. Ross was eventually arrested.

At this time, police said other disturbances broke out in the parking lot. Seven people, including a 17-year-old, were arrested.

Police said the officer was taken to the hospital with a back injury after someone pushed away from the officer to run away.

No further information was immediately released.

The Providence Board of Licenses told ABC 6 News that Mezzo Lounge will be closed until next Thursday.
