Officer shot following and early morning traffic stop in Roxbury

BOSTON, M.A. (WLNE) – A police officer was rushed to the hospital after being shot over night in Roxbury.

The gunman is now dead.

It happened around 2:20 a.m. Friday morning when officers tried to pull over a vehicle.

Police say the driver started shooting and several rounds of gunfire were exchanged.

The driver then took off and the car was later found on George street where the driver was found dead.

The Boston Police Department says the officer was shot in the upper torso and was taken to Boston Medical Center with non–life threatening injuries.
