Official City of Providence Website Hacked Earlier
The official city of Providence website (providenceri.com) was hacked around 5:30a.m. Sunday.
The Providence IT staff was made aware of the problem around 8:30a.m. and utilized a remote backup to fully restore the city's site.
The site was fixed and was back up and running around 9:30a.m.
Mayor Taveras and David Ortiz, issued this statement to ABC6 news:
“The hacker conducted a website defacement attack that affected a large number of customers of the company that hosts the city's website. It was not a targeted attack on providenceri.com or any of the city's other web domains. The hacker did not compromise the city's internal servers, data or email.”
