WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — The Old Warwick Avenue Bridge is closed to traffic, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation said Friday.

The bridge, built in 1950, carried Old Warwick Avenue over Buckeye Brook in Warwick.

RIDOT crews said the bridge showed deterioration and a recent inspection showed it wasn’t safe for drivers.

Pedestrians and cyclists can still cross the bridge safely.

City officials and RIDOT will decide what to do with the bridge in the future.
