One arrested after crashing into Dartmouth police cruiser

DARTMOUTH, MASS (WLNE) – A Dartmouth police officer was injured early Sunday morning when his cruiser was struck by an alleged intoxicated operator. 

According to the Dartmouth Police Department, at approximately 1:54 a.m, an officer was investigating an earlier crash on Route 6 near Connecticut Avenue before the cruiser he was sitting in was struck by a 2014 Chevy Silverado. 

The operator of the vehicle was identified as 56-year-old David Costa of New Bedford 

The Dartmouth officer was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, where he was treated for minor injuries. 

Costa was arrested and charged with negligent operation and operating under the influence of liquor.
