One dead after car crashes into tree, catches fire in Cranston

CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) – Cranston police are investigating a fatal crash that occured Thursday morning on Laten Knight Road.

When authorities arrived on scene, they found a car with significant front-end damage against a tree. The driver was laying next to the car, which was engulfed in flames. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

They were later identified as Kyle Segee, 35, of Chepachet, R.I.

No other cars were involved in the crash.

Cranston Police say the car was apparently traveling at a high rate of speed, and exited the road way when it approached a sharp bend. There was no apparent evidence that the driver attempted to slow down at the bend.

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
