One dead after single motorcycle crash in Warwick

WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) – Warwick police, fire, and EMS personnel responded to West Shore Road for reports of a motorcycle accident around 11 a.m Wednesday morning.

Officers responded to a single motorcycle in the woods and the male operator being tended to by bystanders.

Police say an initial investigation reveals that the motorcycle was being operated by a 77-year-old man from Warwick.

The motorcycle was driving westbound on West Shore Road, when the operator left the roadway, traveled along the sidewalk, and crossed all three lanes of traffic.  The motorcycle came to a stop in a wooded area at the corner of West Shore Road and Pearl Avenue.

The driver was found unresponsive upon arrival of officers and EMS personnel.  He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

At this time, police have not identified the victim.

The incident is being investigated by the Warwick Police Traffic Unit reconstruction team.  Authorities say speed, alcohol, distracted driving were not a factor in the accident.
