One dead in Warwick fire on Chesterfield Ave

WARWICK, R.I (WLNE) – The Warwick Fire Department confirmed that a 37-year-old woman died after a house fire broke out Thursday morning.

Crews arrived on the scene of Chesterfield Avenue around 8:00 AM.

The 37-year-old woman, identified as Shaylyn Schoonmaker, ran back into the burning home in an attempt to save her dog.

She was rushed to the hospital where she later died.

Fury said that the investigation is ongoing and is being handled by the Rhode Island State Fire Marshal.

Schoonmaker was a well-known bus driver and lunch aid for Warwick Schools.
