One dead following shooting on Carnation Street in Pawtucket

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE)-One person has died after being shot in Pawtucket on Sunday night.

Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves confirms that 28-year-old Jovani Velez was shot on Carnation St. around 7:45 p.m.

Police said that Velez was taken to a local hospital, where he died on Monday morning.

ABC6 was in the area of Carnation St. just after 8:00 where our crews noticed about a half dozen police cruisers.

We also noticed multiple officers surveying the scene and looking for any evidence.

Officers were also trying to obtain surveillance video from near by houses.

Investigators remained on scene for about an hour, while police vehicles blocked a portion of the street off to traffic.
