Osram Sylvania set to close plant in Central Falls

One of Central Falls largest employers will be closing down this year. Nearly 100 people will be out of work when manufacturing plant Osram Sylvania shuts its doors in September.

The plant is being closed as part of a corporate restructuring.

The lighting company says declining sales for traditional lighting products is forcing them to shut down the Central Falls plant which employs 88 people.

Osram Sylvania released the following statement:

“The decision to close the plants is a difficult but necessary step in order to focus resources on developing a comprehensive solid-state lighting portfolio that best meets the needs of the market and ensure future growth. The company is putting steps in place and remains committed to quality production and safe productivity during this transition process.”

Two other Sylvania plants- in New Hampshire and Pennsylvania- will also close. A total of 345 work res will be impacted.
