Overnight stabbing in Providence sends one to hospital

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Police responded to reports of a stabbing in Providence late Saturday night.

Shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday night, police were dispatched to 17 Pennsylvania avenue for reports of a stabbing, says Lt. Christopher Donnelly of Providence Police.

Upon arrival, police officers encountered a man face down on the ground being attended to by a friend. A knife was also discovered nearby.

Witnesses at the scene directed police in the direction that the suspect fled. Police were able to find the suspect at another location on Pennsylvania Ave, have witnesses positively identify the suspect, and place the suspect under arrest.

The victim was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with unknown injuries.

According to officials, the victim is in stable condition.

An investigation is currently underway.
