Owner hopes to keep ‘New England for Trump’ stores open post-election
WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — As former Vice President, Joe Biden, is projected to be the next president-elect of the United States, it leaves the fate of nearly two dozen ‘New England for Trump’ stores in jeopardy.
But owner Keith Lambert tells ABC 6, he hopes many of his stores will remain open for the foreseeable future.
“In four years, President Trump is going to be Joe Biden’s age,” said Lambert. “So I’m assuming he’s going to be running for president in 2024.”
Lambert opened his first ‘New England for Trump’ store in 2019. Since then, 21 other brick and mortar locations have popped up across the region, in states like Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut, and New Hampshire.
Since last week’s election, Lambert says business has slowed a bit, but people are still coming in.
“As long as people are excited about our president and want to support him, we will stay open,” Lambert told ABC 6.
Lambert hopes to keep most of his locations open through Christmas time, if not longer. He says he is currently negotiating leases.
Even if some stores close their doors, Lambert wants to keep at least 5 main location open for all of 2021, including locations in Smithfield and Warwick, R.I.
Prior to the election, Lambert donated a percentage of his stores’ sales to President Trump’s campaign fund. Now he says that money will be going towards the President’s election defense legal fund.
