P-BRUINS
FALL TO SOUND TIGERS

Hanson and Warsofsky tally first goals
of the season

Providence, RI — The Providence
Bruins fell to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers 6-2 this afternoon at the Dunkin'
Donuts Center. Christian Hanson and David Warsofsky each notched their first
goals of the season.

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers had an edge against the Providence Bruins to
begin the tumultuous opening period.  Just over five minutes into the game, David Ullstrom opened the scoring when
his shot beat Niklas Svedberg just
inside the cross bar to give the Sound Tigers an early lead. The P-Bruins would
not back down and minutes later Lane
MacDermid
and Bobby Robins both
got into fights within two seconds of each other. Three minutes later
Bridgeport used that momentum to extend their lead 2-0. Providence kept at it
for the second half of the period and were soon within a goal when Hanson
redirected a shot from Warsofsky for his first goal of the season. Zach Trotman had the secondary assist.
The last minute and a half of the period would be 4-on-4 hockey after the game
started to get chippy. With Chris
Bourque
sent off for roughing and Torey
Krug
assessed with a 10-minute misconduct, Warsofsky rocketed a shot from
just in front of the blue line within the last second of the period to tie up
the game.

The P-Bruins did not hesitate to continue to throw punches in the second
period and the fights came in pairs again. Robins dropped the gloves for a
second time in the game with former P-Bruin Nate McIver and seven seconds later, Kevan Miller took down Ty
Wishart
just as fast as their fight began. The action kept coming as the
Sound Tigers got the go ahead goal to make it 3-2 just four seconds later. The
period got away from Providence after the halfway mark when they got back to
back penalties that allowed Nino
Niederreiter
to extend his power play goal scoring streak another game when
he scored to make it 4-2. MacDermid took a charging penalty with just over two
minutes to go in the period and Ullstrom took advantage of the extra man and
put the P-Bruins in a three goal hole with another power play goal. From the
faceoff following the penalty, MacDermid exchanged punches with Gallant for
both of their second fights of the game. Gallant got an extra two minutes in
the penalty box for roughing that gave the P-Bruins another power play chance
to carry over into the final period.

Michael Hutchinson came in to relieve
Svedberg to begin the third period. Soon after the power play expired,
Bridgeport tallied another goal that trickled past Hutchinson to make it 6-2.
Despite continuing to put shots on goal, Providence could not come back and
fell to the Sound Tigers. Hutchinson made six saves and Svedberg made 22 saves
and suffered the loss.

The P-Bruins return
