FALL RIVER, MASS. (WLNE) – The Fall River Police Department issued a warning to parents after drugs were found in the shape of ‘SpongeBob SquarePants’ characters.

Police seized a bag of brightly colored pills shaped like the characters SpongeBob, Patrick Star, and Squidward Tentacles, among others. Officials say there is also a Ferrari-style emblem in the mix.

Officials said the pills are MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy.

“To me it’s scary,” said parent Stacy Aguiar. “My kids love candy. If they see something that kind of looks like characters they watch on TV, they’re going to want to eat that.”

She has two children, ages 4 and 5. She’s keeping a closer eye on them since the drugs surfaced.

“I think parents should talk to their children and tell them not to eat any candy, or if they’re offered candy to ask questions,” said Aguiar.

Police issued a press release, warning parents to be aware of the drugs.

“Parents, guardians, and caretakers should be on the lookout for these as school starts and Halloween is fast approaching,” the department said. “Anyone coming in contact with this or similar items should stop handling it and contact police.”

According to police, the drugs were seized when they arrested 22-year-old Luisceito Cruz-Dubois, who had been on Fall River’s Top 10 Most Wanted list for a violent home invasion on Peckham Street that happened on August 16th.

Police say Cruz-Dubois was in possession of 54 MDMA pills at the time of his arrest, as well as crack.
