Park Ave Bridge expected to re-open soon

Construction on Cranston's Park Avenue Bridge is nearing completion.

On Monday, crews put down asphalt and worked on some other final touches.

A DOT official telling ABC 6 News the bridge is expected to open up soon and ahead of schedule.

The re-opening can't come soon enough for businesses who say they've lost dozens of clients since the closure last month.

"We usually get 20 to 30 walk ins a week. I've gotten 4 since the bridge closed,” said Kenny Elderkin a barber at Elite Barber Shop.

Elderkin the business has lost at least a few thousand dollars due to the lack of traffic.

"We actually hired a barber right before this happened and he's not working here anymore because there's no walk in business,” said Elderkin.

Right next door, the owner of ABV Vapes says he's noticed the lack of clientele as well.

"Being a new business this really effected us out of the gate. But, things are picking up we're still doing well,” said Brandon Grandmaison.

Both businesses.. though obviously not happy with the customers they've lost, are very pleased to hear that the bridge is expected to open ahead of schedule.

"I wish this didn't happen but I'm glad that the city of Cranston and the state got it done quickly,” said Grandmaison.
