The New England Patriots have release tight-end Aaron Hernandez after he was arrested on Wednesday morning for his involvement in a North Attleboro homicide.

The team issued the following statement: “The New England Patriots issued the following statement: “A young man was murdered last week and we extend our sympathies to the family and friends who mourn his loss. Words cannot express the disappointment we feel knowing that one of our players was arrested as a result of this investigation. We realize that law enforcement investigations into this matter are ongoing. We support their efforts and respect the process.  At this time, we believe this transaction is simply the right thing to do.”

Last Monday 27-year-old Odin Lloyd was found dead in a North Attleboro industrial park just blocks from Hernandez's home.

Lloyd was an associate of Hernandez and was last seen out with Hernandez and two other men.
