PawSox Light Up Tobacco Road

The PawSox jumped on Durham starter Edgar Gonzalez for three runs in the first inning and two more in the second, rolling to an 11-3 win on Monday afternoon at steamy Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Kevin Millwood looked quite sharp, as he went six and two thirds innings, allowing just one run on 5 hits. Millwood struck out 4 hitters and walked none. Millwood (1-0 with PawSox and 2-1 overall in I.L.) was also very efficient, throwing just 62 pitches, 40 for strikes. Clevelan Santeliz worked the final two and a third innings for the PawSox.

Marco Scutaro and Darnell McDonald both continued to make strides on their respective M.L. rehab assignments. Scutaro (oblique) went 3-4 with a double, scoring twice. McDonald (quad) had a pair of doubles and 2 RBI. He also scored a run. Lars Anderson added a two run double.

Anderson has 11 RBI in his last 8 games. Luis Exposito hammered his third homer of the year and nearly had another on a fly ball that hit at the top of the 32 foot tall “Blue Monster” in left field. Jose Iglesias had a 2 run single and Ronald Bermudez had a couple of singles as part of the 14 hit attack by the PawSox. Defensively, the PawSox matched a season-high, turning four double plays.

The PawSox (31-26) have won 6 of their last 7 games, including three of four in North Carolina. The southern swing continues on Tuesday night at 7:15 in Norfolk, Virginia. Kyle Weiland (5-4, 3.10) faces Mitch Atkins (1-1, 3.53).
