PawSox Open 8-Game Home Stand on a Sour Note

PawSox news release…

PAWTUCKET, R.I.
– Back at home for an eight-game homestand, the Pawtucket Red Sox allowed a pair of two-out runs in the top of 8th inning to fall to Lehigh Valley 4-3 in front of a crowd of 4,790 at McCoy Stadium Friday night.

After a 49 minute rain delay to start the night, the PawSox were the first to strike against Lehigh Valley in the 2nd
inning. After a lead-off
double by Alex Hassan against Greg Smith, Drew Sutton sacrificed Hassan
to third and after a shallow fly ball was the second out, Brock Holt
reached on an error to plate the first run of the game.

Hassan came through for the PawSox in the 3rd as he blasted a two-run home run (#4) to left field to give Pawtucket a 3-0 lead.

Allen
Webster made the start Friday night against Lehigh Valley and he set
the tone early a start removed from his worst outing of the season.
After
a one out walk in the 1st, Webster retired nine straight batters.

The PawSox right hander did not allow a hit until the 5th
when Cameron Rupp singled with one out. Tyson Gillies followed the hit
with a walk
before Leandro Castro singled to load the bases. After a strikeout,
Cody Asche singled to center to score two making the Pawtucket lead just
3-2.

Webster would toss a perfect 6th before ending his night after six solid innings allowing just a pair of runs on three hits with four strike
outs.

Reliever Chris Martin tossed a flawless 7th before allowing a lead-off single in the 8th.
After a sacrifice and ground out, Cody
Overbeck doubled down the right field line to tie the game 3-3. Josh
Fields followed with an RBI single on the very next pitch to score
Overbeck and give the IronPigs their first lead of the game.

And
the IronPigs would hold onto that lead beating Pawtucket by a final
score of 4-3 beating the PawSox for the sixth straight time.

Pawtucket
will continue their four-game set with Lehigh Valley Saturday at
6:05pm. Lefty Chris Hernandez (3-7, 5.42) will start for the PawSox
against
lefty Adam Morgan (1-5, 4.73) of the IronPigs.
