PawSox Fall in 13
Thirteen Proves to be Unlucky for PawSox
The PawSox and Norfolk battled for thirteen innings before Rhyne Hughes delivered the game winning RBI against Tony Pena. The Tides won 4-3. Hughes had struck out in his previous 5 at bats. Manager Arnie Beyeler opted to intentionally walk Joash Bell to face Hughes. Pena (3-3) took the loss. The PawSox bullpen had performed admirably, as Scott Atchison, Hideki Okajima and Randy Williams had each tossed a pair of shutout innings. Starter Kyle Weiland allowed 3 runs (1 earned) in 5 innings.
The Tides scored 3 runs in the bottom of the fifth. One was earned as Norfolk capitalized on a pair of Pawtucket errors. One error was by shortstop Brent Dlugach, the other by Kyle Weiland. The PawSox quickly answered in the top of the sixth as Dlugach blasted a three run home run.
The 3 hour, 47 minute marathon remained tied at 3 until Hughes' game winner.
The series continues on Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. Andrew Miller (3-2, 2.70) faces Brad Bergesen (1-0, 1.50).
