Pawtucket boy’s body pulled from Chicopee River, second boy still missing

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WLNE) – Search crews were out on the Chicopee River for a third day Monday, after two young boys went missing over the weekend.

Police were notified around 1 p.m. Saturday of two missing boys, aged 10 and 11, who are cousins. They had gone to play in the woods off of Fuller Road but never came home. Police believe they ventured out onto the ice on the Chicopee River.

On Saturday, the body of the 11-year-old from Pawtucket was recovered. He was rushed to Baystate Medical Center and then flown to Boston Children’s Hospital where he later died.

The 10-year-old boy is still missing, but crews had to cut search efforts short Monday morning as the conditions on the river were too icy.

Massachusetts State Police are assisting Chicopee Police and Fire Departments in the search and rescue efforts, along with a dive team and drone team.

Police have not yet identified the children.
