Pawtucket, RI (WLNE) – Pawtucket police arrested two men Wednesday afternoon for emptying a container full of gasoline near a stream.

The arrest came following a tip from a city inspector who had observed two men emptying a large black plastic gasoline container onto a grassy area near a stream in the area of Grenville Street in Pawtucket.

Upon arrival, officers located the two men, Pedro A. Lopes, 32, of Brockton, MA and Olivio G. Lima, 43, of Pawtucket. Both men were transported to police headquarters and charged with violations of hazardous waste management regulations.

Police contacted the Department of Environmental Management (DEM) and informed them of the situation.

DEM advised that they would send out a local clean-up crew to coordinate the removal of the waste.

Lopes and Lima were arraigned in Providence District Court on Thursday.
