The Pawtucket DPW is working overtime to clean up the city in time for Saturday’s parade.

“People are going to be watching the parade. participating in the race route. we go up and down the race route making sure the pot holes are filled, making sure people can actually watch the parade safely from the side of the street,” Director Lance Hill said.

Pawtucket crews did an excellent job widening the sidewalks so folks can watch the parade, but it still is a bit slippery in places, so if you are coming out be sure to use caution.

“The city is doing a heck of a job taking care of the sidewalks and filling all the potholes,” Arthur Brunnelle, co-chair of the parade said. He says, despite the snow, canceling was never an option.

“We were going to go through with it no matter what. we always have. We marched in a snow storm in 96. I have been through it all,” he said.

You will notice the green shamrock in front of city hall won’t be as bright as usual. The city has not been able to paint in this year as it traditionally does.

In the wake of the Pawsox decision to leave the city and after a brutal winter the organizers see this parade as just what the doctor ordered.

“It’s excellent. The city does a lot. The people enjoy it. The hall will be full tomorrow. People look forward to it. they need to get out,” co-chair Tom Rogers said.

The parade starts at noon sharp at McCoy stadium and winds through the streets of Pawtucket and ends at the shamrock in front of city hall.
