The Pawtucket River Bridge is in the running to be named one of the top transportation projects in the country.

A contest put on by The American Association of State Highways and Transportation Officials, AAA, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is looking for the nation’s top transportation project.

Competition includes the Oakland Bay Bridge and the Mississippi River Bridge in Illinois, but Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien is confident that his city’s bridge can make it to the top.

“Already the Pawtucket River Bridge has been recognized as one of the top ten Transportation Projects in the country”, said Mayor Grebien. “All of us here in Pawtucket know how well the bridge turned out. It has become a major gateway to our city and at night stands as a beacon to the thousands of travelers passing through our city each week.”

The contest runs from September 8 – October 24, when transportation experts will pick the Grand Prize winner.

A People’s Choice Award will be determined by online voters.

You can vote – up to ten times a day – for the Pawtucket River Bridge here.

Winning projects will be awarded an educational grant in the transportation field or funding for a community service project.
