Pawtucket to open Fairlawn pool with help from city’s police, fire department

PAWTUCKET, RI (WLNE) -The city of Pawtucket is getting creative to try and solve the lifeguard shortage by training the city’s police and fire departments to staff the Veterans Memorial Park Pool in Fairlawn.

According to a city spokesperson, both public safety departments offered to help so the pool could open this summer.

The city is working on certification training over this week and the week of July 12th.

The pool’s opening date will be announced after the training is complete.

The City of Pawtucket’s open job posting for lifeguards is still active and the city says anyone interested is still welcome to apply if they are over 16.
