Pawtucket woman sustains serious burns after trying to put out fire

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE): A Pawtucket woman sustained serious burns after attempting to put out a fire outside her home on Bellmore Drive.

According to Battalion Chief Michael Thurber, fire crews responded to the home around 3:45 on Sunday afternoon. A large pile of wood caught fire and extended to the shed.

According to Thurber, they believe a woman in her mid to late 50’s was illegally burning something outside. She tried to put it out and began burning herself. She then ran back into her home to try and put the fire out with sink water, which started a small fire inside.

Firefighters found the woman in her driveway, conscious and alert.

She was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with severe burns to her legs.

The Local and state fire marshall is investigating further.
