PC Announces Basketball Schedule



PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Providence College Head Coach Keno Davis announced the Friars' BIG EAST men's basketball 2010-11 schedule on Friday, September 17. The schedule is highlighted by home games against BIG EAST opponents Pittsburgh, Louisville, Villanova and Notre Dame. In non-conference action, the Friars will host SEC opponent Alabama and intra-state rival Rhode Island.


The Friars will play 18 BIG EAST games this season, five of which will be televised on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU. The 18-game format will allow each team to play every league opponent once and three teams twice. PC's home league schedule will feature games versus St. John's on January 1, Pittsburgh on January 4, Louisville on January 22 on ESPNU, Villanova on January 26, USF on February 2, DePaul on February 17 on ESPN/ESPN2, Cincinnati on February 19 on ESPNU, Notre Dame on February 23 and Rutgers on March 5.


Providence will open its BIG EAST season on the road with a game at Syracuse on December 28 on ESPNU.  PC's other league road games will be at Rutgers on January 8, at West Virginia on January 13 on ESPN/ESPN2, at USF on January 16, at Seton Hall on January 30, at Georgetown on February 5, at Connecticut on February 13, at Marquette on February 27 and at Louisville on March 2.


Only start times for non-league and league games televised on ESPN and ESPN 2 have been released today. The remainder of the game times and the full television schedule will be released at a later date.


In non-conference action, the Friars' regular season opener is scheduled for November 13 versus Dartmouth.  PC will face Yale on November 15 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center before playing the first two games of the Cancun Challenge in Providence versus Morgan State (November 18) and Prairie View A&M (November 20).  The Friars will then travel to Cancun, Mexico for two games versus LaSalle (November 23) and Wyoming or Missouri (November 24).


With the exception of a road game at Boston College on December 8, the remainder of the team's non-conference schedule will be at home versus Central Connecticut (November 29), Northeastern (December 1), Rhode Island (December 4), Brown (December 6), Alabama (December 11) and Sacred Heart (December 21).     


The Friars will open their season with an exhibition contest versus Bentley on November 6 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.


Fans can get their first glimpse of the team at the annual Late Night Madness festivities at Alumni Hall on Friday, October 15. Doors will open at 9:30 p.m. and admission is free. The Friars also will be in action at the team's Fanfest at Alumni Hall on Sunday, October 24. The day will include interactive events for children and adults followed by the annual Mal Brown Scrimmage. The events will begin at noon in Mullaney Gymnasium.


Season tickets for Friar men's basketball start at just $99.
