PC Signs Guard Maliek White from Virginia to National Letter of Intent

PROVIDENCE, R.I. Providence College men’s basketball coach Ed Cooley announced today (November 11) that student-athlete Maliek White (Richmond, Va.) signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Providence College beginning in September 2016. 

White, a 6-foot-2-inch, 170-pound guard plays for George Wythe High School in Richmond, Va., where he is coached by Willard Coker.  In 2015, White led George Wythe to the state title after he averaged 30.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals per game during the state tournament.  He also shot 64.5 percent from the field, including 53.8 percent from three-point territory, and 82.4 percent from the free throw line in the tournament. 

In the state championship game, he scored 36 points in an 80-60 win over Spotswood and helped the Bulldogs win their first ever State Championship trophy.  During the regular season in 2015, White averaged 17.4 points and 5.9 assists per game in 28 games.  For his efforts he was named 3A-East Region Player of the Year and Conference 26 Player of the Year honors. 

“We are excited to add Maliek to our roster next season,” Cooley said.  “His toughness along with his ability to score the ball will be valuable assets to our team.”
