PC Women’s Hockey Team to Play at Frozen Fenway In January

PROVIDENCE, R.I. –
The Providence College women's ice hockey team will play an outdoor
contest at Fenway Park in Boston, Mass. on January 10, 2012. The Friars
will take on Dartmouth at 3 p.m. The contest will be part of the 2012
Sun Life Frozen Fenway event. It is a 16-day celebration of hockey
featuring collegiate and scholastic games.

“To play the game we love in one of the most historic cathedrals
in all of sports is very exciting. It is a once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity not many college players get the chance to have in their
careers,” explained Providence Head Coach Bob Deraney,
a native of nearby West Roxbury, Mass. “We all thank Fenway Sports
Management, Hockey East and especially Providence College for giving us
this opportunity.

“For me personally, going to Fenway Park my entire life, I know
making the move from the stands to being a part of the action is
something very few people from Boston have the opportunity to do. It's
not lost on me how very special it is for us to be taking part in such a
wonderful event as 2012 Sun Life Frozen Fenway. ”

Tickets for the college hockey game are available by phone at 877-REDSOX9 and online at redsox.com/frozenfenway .

The meeting with Dartmouth was originally scheduled to be
played at Schneider Arena on December 31. Should inclement weather on
January 10 preclude the outdoor game at Fenway, the contest will be
moved back to Schneider Arena at 7 p.m. on January 10.

This will be the second time the Friars have played outdoors.
Last February, Providence defeated Connecticut, 4-3, at Rentschler Field
in East Hartford, Conn. during the Whaler Hockey Fest celebration.
