PD: 2-alarm fire at Fall River apartment building

FALL RIVER, Mass. (WLNE) — Crews were called out to battle a 2-alarm fire in Fall River Thursday night.

It started around 6:30 p.m. at the Mount Apartments on Middle Street.

When firefighters got there, heavy flames were seen coming from the 4th floor of the building.

“The report was that a woman had been smoking on her bed, dropped a cigarette, tried to put it out with a pan of water. It just spread and she ended up running out of the apartment,” said Fall River District Chief Michael Clark.

Everybody was able to make it out of the building safely.

We are told however, the woman’s 3 cats who were in the apartment where the fire started died.
