Pedestrian hit and killed on I-95 North in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Rhode Island State Police confirmed that a man was hit and killed early Wednesday morning on I-95 North.

State Police say calls came in around 2 a.m. Wednesday for a pedestrian hit on I-95 near Thurbers Avenue.

The Police identified the victim as 30-year-old Gregory Perez of Providence.

The driver who hit the man stopped the car immediately and is cooperating fully with the police, according to State Police.

An investigation of the crash revealed that Perez was wearing dark clothing and entered onto the highway from the breakdown lane area.

Police say he then proceeded the cross three lanes of travel when he was struck.

State Police say the driver was taken to Rhode Island Hospital as a precaution but has since been released.

While the accident remains under investigation, it does not appear the driver will be facing criminal charges.
