Penguins Edge P-Bruins In Sunday Shootout

Providence, RI — After a tied up game the Providence Bruins fall in the shootout on the fourth round.

Four goals scored in the first period kept the score tied up 2-2. Providence Bruins got off to a bit of a rocky start with a penalty kill sending Jordan Szwarz to the box for hooking just 3:17 into the game. The  Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins score the first goal of the game at 6:32 with an unassisted goal by Reid Gardiner. P-Bruins go on the power play when Chad Ruhwedel is called for interference. P-Bruins tie up the score 1-1 with a goal scored by Jordan Szwarz with an assist from Danton Heinen and Peter Cehlarik at 13:43 . Just after the goal is scored Tyler Randell is sent off to the box at 13:53 for roughing. The Penguins Oskar Sundqvist breaks the tie at 16:03 scoring a goal assisted by Kevin Porter and Garrett Wilson. The P-Bruins find themselves in their third penalty kill of the period when Zac Rinaldo is called for slashing. Heinen and Szwarz team up again and tie the score 2-2 this time Heinen scores the goal off of Szwarz.

Both teams continue to play strong throughout the second period with the Penguins in the lead 4-3 and the P-Bruins outshooting the Penguins 33-23. The P-Bruins had three power plays throughout the period, the first one was at 4:45 for tripping by Tim Erixon. Penguins Break the tie for the second time in the game at 10:24 with a goal scored by Tom Kostopoulos off of an assist from Chad Ruhwedel and Carter Rowney. At 11:18 Penguins Erixon is called for holding giving the P-Bruins another power play and then again at 13:46 when Cameron Gaunce is whistled for roughing. The Penguins take the score up 4-2 with a goal scored by Jean-Sebastien Dea assisted by Sahir Gill and their goalie Tristan Jarry. With just over a minute left to play in the period Cehlarik tipped a shot from the point by Alex Grant past Jarry also assisted by Colby Cave.

The P-Bruins score the only goal of the period and tie up the score once again 4-4. The P-Bruins begin the period off strong taking advantage of a power play early in the period when Wayne Simpson scores his first of the season off of an assist from Szwarz and Chris Porter. The P-Bruins go on the final penalty kill of the night sending Linus Arnesson into the box for cross checking. Both teams played out the clock keeping the game tied up 4-4 the Penguins outshot the P-Bruins in the third period 3-2.

The third period ends with the score tied up 4-4 sending the game into a 5 minute 3 on 3 overtime. After a goalless overtime the game headed into a shootout. The shootout lasted four rounds, Providence sent in Heinen, DeBrusk, Cehlarik and Grant but all were unsuccessful. Vladar stayed strong in the net blocking shots from Porter, Jake Guentzel, Simon, the fourth and final shot of the game was shot in by Wilson winning the game for the Penguins 5-4.

The Providence Bruins will be back home again on Friday November 18th at 7:05 for a matchup with Lehigh Valley.
