Victims of a Providence man accused of stealing thousands of dollars from Hispanic families rallied outside the Providence District Courthouse today.

Jose Francisco Silverio, 51, is accused of running a money wiring services where he promised Hispanic families he would wire money to their relatives overseas.  In some cases Silverio made the transfer then canceled it as soon as the family left, keeping their money and in others he never even made the transfer.

The victims stood outside of court on Tuesday demanding they get their money back. Susan Beaty of the Olneyville Neighborhood Association said that Silverio targeted Hispanic immigrants and no white people were affected.

He is charged with 21 counts of fraud and theft exceeding $20,000.

His arraignment has been pushed back until May 1.
